Many Star Trek fans have seen the episode “The Doomsday Machine” where the USS Enterprise finds the shattered USS Constellation and an away team finds only Commodore Decker aboard who tells them what happened to the ship and his crew.
Tales from The Neutral Zone and Avalon Universe uses what was said in that episode to show fans what had happened to the Constellation so you could say that is this a fan made prequel to “The Doomsday Machine”.
It is a short fan film with only thirteen minutes used out of the maximum of thirty but you’ll see a great show because this fan film links up perfectly with the Star Trek episode.
The Neutral Zone sets always serve the productions that use them well and as the Constellation was a Constitution class Starship, it worked out perfectly for them.
While most fans already know the end result, it was still nice to see it play out on screen instead of imagining it based on the words said in the Star Trek episode.
The acting can be a little over the top but it is in true fan production style, you’re not going to find casts stacked with pros these days and the only way to improve is by doing and learning.
I sometimes wish Doomsday was a little longer in length but perhaps a longer running time may have let down the fan production as there seems to be not much that they could have added to the story.
